Week 1-2 (CSC165)

Welcome bloggers to the SLOG of Lamar Foyle from the University of Toronto. In this SLOG I will be speaking on my experiences in CSC165. I have decided to separate my thoughts into three headings. The first heading will be The Good, were I will be speaking on what I learnt, understood, and enjoyed in the week. The second heading will be The Bad, were I will be speaking on what I did not understand and found frustrating. The third heading will be the Conclusion, were I will summarize my week and say what I need to do to either continue my success or correct my mistakes. Hope you enjoy and please don't be hesitant to comment.

The Good
Week two and things are looking good. I have found that classes have been very informative. I liked the way Mr. Heap used Venn diagrams to help us see what needs to happen for a result to be True or False. At first when the prof asked us to comment the functions I found it difficult, but once he did the first one and I was able to discuss with my peers it helped a lot in my understanding. I really enjoyed my tutorial even though I was in the wrong room at first I found that both TA's explained the exercise really well  in full detail, which I found very helpful in understanding the topic and the quiz.

The Bad
Wednesday was just a bad day for me when it came to CSC165. I really did not understand what the prof was speaking about. It was like I was listening and taking notes but for some reason it was not processing in my head. My clear solution for that is to go over the lecture notes again and if that does not help seek assistance from a TA. Other than that there has not been any thing else that I would categorize as bad.

Conclusion
To conclude, so far I am enjoying and understanding the course material, hopefully this is a consistent statement I am saying during these SLOGs. I feel that if I continue to stay attentive in lectures, look at notes posted by other instructors and practice what ever we do in class at home I will continue to find success. I must also remember that if I am having any trouble I should seek assistance. So a breakdown of what I learnt this week is: four steps of Rigor without Mortis, how to comment quant functions, and that quantifiers connect properties of elements to properties of sets.

It has been great speaking to you Lamar Out.

  1. I lik your strategy on how to do well in the course and I'm glad you are comfortable with the material so far. Try to practice a lot!

From now on, please go to the correct tutorial room (BA2159).
