Today I will be narrating the problem titled 'penny piles'. We worked on it in class early in the term and I gained some knowledge on this problem in class. I am now going to try and go through the necessary steps to solve this problem. The problem briefly states, "You must use the combinations to to see if they're any numbers that have a range that is impossible to reach and to try using a different starting point instead of 64 pennies in the left drawer.
First you must understand the problem
We know the operations of the Left and Right side now we need to try out different situations using these combos. For example if we start with 64 in the left we now need to transfer half of the pennies to the right to make 32 on each side. Then you follow the right side condition and transfer half of the right to the left to give the left 48 and right 16. You can keep on doing this as long as the number in the drawers match the stipulation.
Devising a plan to tackle the problem
Like I did above to solve this problem you need to do multiple examples, however you need to make sure in certain problem you make sure your answer or functions is true for every possibility. A key thing to remember is that if you do think you solved the problem to pick a random number in this case to see if it is true. I personally have made this mistake trying to find patterns, but by doing this you set yourself up for mistakes. Also when devising a plan its best to work in partner because when you think you have the answer your partners can be there to challenge it to see if it is truly correct. I really was not able to figure out a way to answer this question. Even though I had ideas my partner challenged it a my answer proved to be incorrect.
Carrying out a plan and working through concepts
Once you have a plan you test it and see if it is correct. I was able to get this far in the answering process however I was not able to solve the problem.
If any can help me solve this problem I would really appreciate it because it is really troubling me because I feel that I am so close.
When it comes to others SLOGs I liked how aleccool21.blogspot.ca set up his blogs. I especially liked what how he expressed what we learnt in the weeks and I even used how he set up some of his SLOGs to improve my own.
It has been fun speaking to you all THIS IS LAMAR FOYLE FOR THE FINAL TIME FOR CSC165 SIGNING OUT. GOOD LUCK ON THE EXAMS!
